Bahrain Ban on Catching and Selling Crab Begins
Since Monday, a two-month ban on catching and selling crabs has been in place. Understudy of the agricultural and marine resources directorate declared this on Sunday. The clampdown, according to Dr. Nabil Abu Fateh, is aimed at protecting Bahrain’s marine resources and biodiversity in the kingdom’s territorial waters.
The crabs’ numbers are expected to increase as a result of the ban, which will last until May 15th during the breeding season. It is part of the minister of works, municipalities affairs, and urban planning, Eng. Essam Bin Abdullah Khalaf’s, resolution no. (52) of 2016 regarding the ban.
Monitoring operations will be launched by maritime supervision teams in coordination with the appropriate authorities to avoid any breaches of this decision. During the yearly ban, it is illegal to have nets, equipment, or any other means of catching crabs on the decks of boats in specified crabbing areas as well as areas for docking boats, if their motive is to catch crabs during the ban., according to the regulations.
