Perez and Sainz take up Bahrain vaccine offer
Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz both stated that they accepted the offer of a COVID-19 vaccination when they arrived in Bahrain for pre-season testing.
The Bahraini Health Ministry extended the bid to all Formula 1 staff traveling to Bahrain prior to testing and the Grand Prix later this month. The sport initially claimed that its workers would not take advantage of the bid, as F1 did not want to “jump the queue.”
However, some team members were stated to be considering accepting the offer on Wednesday, and the two drivers confirmed today that they had received their first dose. Last season, Perez was the first driver to test positive for COVID-19, and he was forced to miss both the British Grand Prix and the Silverstone 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.
“We were offered, and I decided to take it,” the Red Bull driver explained. “I don’t know when I would have been able to get it back in Mexico. “It was very sweet of Bahrain to give it to us, and I gladly accepted it.”
“I did take it,” Sainz said. I believe it was a fantastic opportunity, and I am grateful to the Bahraini government for making it available to so many people traveling around the world. I’m pleased with it.”
