Geographic Information System Day 2019
The Geographic Information System Day 2019 (GIS) Conference held its inauguration on December 2019 at Hotel Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea and Spa under the patronage of Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Oil.
Present during the occasion is representatives from the sponsors and organizers team including Tatweer Petroleum, MicroCenter, and Tarteeb, with attendees comprising of leaders, experts, and professionals in the industry.
According to the Minister, “Geospatial data has become an essential element in operational decision making in the oil and gas industry in Bahrain in that it is a useful tool to analyze and display different forms of data.”
GIS plays a significant role in industrial development whether in the aspect of daily operations of facilities or projects exploration, towards the advancement of the state of oil and gas exploration. The technology will facilitate processes in geological exploration for petroleum.
In the opening remarks of Dr. Ghulum Bakiri, President and Founder of MicroCenter Group, he said, “GIS Day is a celebration of how important geographical information is to the future of industries. I foresee an influx of GIS professionals around the world, and in Bahrain in particular, heralding a very promising future for the technology.”
One of the opening highlights was a tour hosted by Tatweer Petroleum employees, which presented various Geographic Information System projects and initiatives of the company.
The event served as a gathering of industry experts from Tatweer Petroleum, Esri, Bahrain E-Government Authority. The program consisted of technical sessions presentations on various components of GIS, which include Enterprise GIS Systems, location intelligence, web applications, drone technology, and soil mapping project.
