Employees of the Bahrain Health Ministry have been imprisoned for tampering with attendance records.
The High Criminal Court sentenced four Health Ministry employees to one year in prison for tampering with their attendance records in order to impose overtime hours on top of their initial extra working hours, for which they were paid in varying sums. The four men were charged a sum of BHD 1,900 to BHD 600 each, and the High Criminal Court ordered them to refund the money they were wrongfully given. In addition, they were both fined the same amount for the offense.
The defendants were prosecuted after they raised suspicions by asking to be paid more for being at work for longer periods of time. They sent their electronic attendance log as evidence after rigging it. They were prosecuted and then charged with forgery and dishonesty.
