Bahrain airport increases capacity to 14 million passengers with new terminal
Bahrain International Airport has opened a new terminal which will increase its capacity from around 9 million passengers a year to 14 million. The 210,000 sq m terminal features a dedicated check-in area for both Falcon Gold and economy class passengers of Gulf Air as well as a brand new Falcon Gold lounge that is double in size and capacity compared to the previous one in the old airport.
“The new terminal will support the strategic vision for Bahrain to strengthen its position as a hub and facilitate the movement of millions of passengers and Gulf Air takes pride to be a vital operator in the state-of-the-art terminal,” said Gulf Air in a statement.
The self-branded boutique airline will relocate to the new terminal as part of its expansion plans. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) welcomed the opening of the new terminal, saying it will strengthen Bahrain’s position in the regional aviation market.
