Bahrain is estimated to lead global real-time payments by 2027 Promoting financial inclusion, enabling businesses, and empowering consumers
The 2023 Prime Time for Real Time report projects that Bahrain will be the leading country in consumer adoption of real-time payments by 2027. The forecast states that by 2027, every Bahraini citizen will make an average of 83.3 real-time transactions monthly, compared to 23 in the year 2022.
The projection will make Bahrain the world leader, surpassing Brazil (51.8), Thailand (43.6) and its regional competitors, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. In 2022, Bahrain came in second globally for real-time transactions (19.1) per month after Thailand (23).
The report stressed how real-time payments are strongly embedded in the daily lives of consumers and businesses in Bahrain. With the assistance of the Central Bank allowing easier use through digital apps like BenefitPay, real-time payments are leading to stronger economic growth, making Bahrain ahead in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia.
